Event Curation
Event Planning + Atmospheric Design
On one end of the event spectrum, you have wedding planning and styling editorial shoots for magazines, and on the other end, you have building things in the woods in the middle of the night wondering if you just heard a bear.
Bash Collective + Juliane James Place
The owner and lead event designer of Bash Collective also owned the outdoor venue Juliane James Place (JJP). I was hired on as an event designer for Bash and as the first property manager for JJP.
Bash challenged how people thought about weddings and encouraged couples to think about how they wanted their wedding or event to be experienced by their guests. We designed around the unexpected and gained the reputation of being innovative, edgy, and inclusive.
JJP was a true labor of love. It was created originally as a place for the owner and her wife to get married before same-sex marriage was legalized in Minnesota (and the United States). After their wedding, I was brought on to prepare the property as an event venue. Besides the two cabins on the property and the tent, we built almost everything else - the dinner and cocktail tables, the beverage bar, the benches, and the stage. I designed the event operations, managed vendor relationships, and ensured that the events stayed bear-free while guests were still on the property.
